Soul Feed

My flowerbox has gone from high summer:

and hunkered down to cool-season annuals:

I leave you with an instant soul feed: reading Whitman's Leaves of Grass.
To think how much pleasure there is!
Have you pleasure from looking at the sky? Have you pleasure
from poems?
Do you enjoy yourself in the city? or engaged in business? or
planning a nomination and election? or with your wife and family?
Or with your mother and sisters? or in womanly housework? or
the beautiful maternal cares?

  1. So you're blogging again? You should have told me. Bookmark time.

BTW, I never did cozy up to AWAY. (i din't like the main character) but like you I was surprised it was excluded from the Times list.

Just finished GRUB a send-up on the writers and publishing and LOVED it.

    Hope all is well you!

  2. Thanks, Karin. I really did like AWAY...so did my mom and hubby...maybe we are in the same literary haze. It didn't start off with a bang, but I loved how Amy Bloom weaved in the backstory-- aka flashback. And I admired the structure of the novel--the travel novel with each chapter a new location and adventure. The protagonist really did grow on me, and I think she may have appeared cold at first [your observation, and true enough] becasue she'd been through such trauma...and was emotionally removed. She thaws out later, though, in search of her daughter.
